ScanVox is a Windows software that, when combined with a screen reader, allows you to read text in PDF files, image files or scanned documents.
The software has been completely rewritten to incorporate the latest text recognition technologies.
INSTALLATION

ScanVox is no longer available on the Microsoft Windows Store due to app limitations and scanner recognition issues.
ScanVox requires a computer running Windows 10 or 11, with speakers or headphones, and a scanner compatible with TWAIN or WIA, which is the case with most scanners, or a camera (webcam for example).
ScanVox is available in 12 languages : French, English, German, Danish, Spanish, Finnish, Icelandic, Italian, Dutch, Norwegian, Portuguese, Swedish.

ScanVox now appears in the context menu of PDF and image files.
To access the text in these files, launch Windows Explorer and select the PDF or image file of your choice. Access the context menu of this file, for example by right-clicking, and then choose the 'ScanVox' option. After processing, the text in your file will automatically appear in Windows Notepad, allowing you to browse its contents with your screen reader, make changes, and save it to a location of your choice for later review.
To scan a document, place it on the glass of your scanner or under your webcam, then launch ScanVox. At the end of the scan, a dialog box asks you if you want to scan another page. Once the scan is complete, the text will automatically appear in Windows Notepad, giving you the same options as before.
Note
• To see 'ScanVox' appear in the context menus, you must first launch the application via the icon on the desktop, even if you do not have a scanner.
• You can place a document on the scanner or under the webcam by inverting it : the system will automatically reposition it in the correct direction.
• If you have multiple scanning devices, ScanVox will display their list so you can choose the device of your choice.
• If you don't already have a scanner, there's no point choosing a high-end product... Multifunction scanners (printer-scanners, from € 30) are ideal and are often cheaper than simple scanners (from € 60), as they are the best-selling products!
For webcams, choose ones with autofocus, which significantly improves image sharpness, and a stand to place the webcam above documents.
